IMPORTANT NOTICE: Applicants who paid the prior $100 application fee at any Commercial Bank branch before January 1 will be processed for a visa interview if they appear for their visa interview before January 31. Applicants who paid the prior $100 application fee and appear for visa interviews after January 31, 2008, must pay the difference of $31 before they can be interviewed for a visa.
The U.S. Government bases fees for consular services on the actual costs of providing those services to individuals and is required by law to recover the cost of processing non-immigrant visas through the collection of the Machine-Readable Visa application fee. Those costs have risen since the visa application fee was last increased in 2002. Because of new security-related costs, new information technology systems, and inflation, the $100 Machine-Readable Visa fee is lower than the actual cost of processing non-immigrant visas. In fact, the $100 fee was already lower than the cost of processing non-immigrant visas when the fee was reviewed as a part of the cost of service study in 2004.
GETTING TO THE EMBASSY: Ongoing road construction projects on 22 February Street have limited access to the U.S. Embassy in Doha. Starting on December 9, 2007, 22 February Street (D-Ring Road) is now completely closed between Immigration and Al Sudan Roundabouts. All access east of the Embassy is now blocked, including the gravel access road that previously allowed drivers to cross 22 February Street from the east. Access is available on a composite material slip-road that parallels 22 February Street along the side nearest the Embassy. A new temporary parking lot is available in front of the Embassy for visa applicants and American citizens.
Visa applicants should plan sufficient travel time to the Embassy to arrive on time for American Citizen Services or for a visa interview. All construction activity, its impact upon the road network, and accessibility to the Embassy is subject to change with little to no advance notice from Ashghal or the construction company building the new road. At this time, the Embassy cannot predict when the road construction project will be completed. However, we anticipate the road works could go on for another 12 to 24 months.
